In West African religions and in traditions that have been influenced by them, primordial divinities are those that existed long before the creation of the world as it is now known. Some of these orishas are primordial in the sense that they existed before the creation of human beings. They emanated directly from God without any human aid.

In Yoruba religion, Oshun is an Orisha who represents love, beauty, closeness, wealth and diplomacy. It is in the group of the Head’s Oshas. She is a very beautiful woman, cheering and smiling always. Sometimes she is very sad and suffered.

The focus of the Yoruba religion has never been salvation of any sort, but focuses more on living a great life right now. Though there is mention of a good and bad heaven, most followers hope for reincarnation which in this tradition is a good thing, as opposed to say Buddhism where it’s something to be escaped.
